The 3D's of shipbuilding jobs, South Korea

This blog potrays the Three D's for the workers and engineers who are associated with the Marine life and job. The shipbuilding companies in South Korea are considered the topmost in the world. The ranking goes from HHI, Uslan as number one, then DSME, Geoje and SHI, Geoje. The job has lot of benefits and are among topmost jobs of the world with the package, bonus, facilities etc. But on the other side the job is straneous, with lot of hard-work, honesty, rough and tough attitude to survive in such a hazardous areas. The quality and quantity of ships which are constructed in South Korea are among top and number one. The owners of the ship are always satisfied with the ship construction by the Korean shipbuilders, as Korean companies manage the time well and deliver the ship before the deadline of the project completion with good quality. This takes a lot of hardwork of the employees construct such giant structures.

Hence the marine workers and engineers consider the Marine jobs has shocking 3Ds. So what are these 3Ds= 1. DIRTY, 2. DEADLY, 3. DANGEROUS

  • Dirty The shipping yards of Korean shipbuilders are well maintained but not comfortable to work in. Some places are extremely small and some places are wide enough, high, steep and deep. While in the concept of constructing the giant structure they require welding, painting which needs to work on heights or hanging around the ship. The conditions are not well -suited to the human at times. The construction site is generally dirty with heavy machinery.
  • >
  • DANGEROUS The working place, especially the shipyards are not safe and also have erratic time schedules. The worker needs to have extreme strength and excellent skills to handle the machines, otherwise it may lead to machinery hazards or major problems, with leakage of life threating fluids etc.

  • DEADLY The marine jobs can be life threating with chances of falling while working. There have been several accidents like fire & explosions etc. Some material which is being used in the manufacturing of the ship are not suitable to human-body. There are several high pressure areas and high voltage areas which extremely deadly can lead to the death.
Hence the working knowledge in these shipyards are extremely important.
The shipbuilders always care well for their workers and hence they developed a special HSE, health safety engineering department which constantly keep a check in the yard and provide special training sessions to the workers and engineers who are involved in the construction of such giants.
Many efforts are constantly being made by the shipbuilders to avoid any kind of accidents and they keep the health and safety of their workers and engineers on the top priority list and develop a free cordial environment to work.

5 steps to get rid of Bugs on the waste food in South Korea

These days the climate is little weird with heavy rains and strong sunshine. Also in this weather you see some strange insects creeping in the house, especially if you have plants or garden around.  Many kind of insects usually enter the house also.
These days the waste food bug is really a nuisance. The bugs or insects are very tiny and can fly around. Generally black in color, they keep flying over the food and also they can bite human while they are asleep at night.
This the real mating season for such bugs and they keep growing their population in the house.

They can easily damage the raw food, or cooked food etc. One has to careful from these bugs, they can lead to health problems.
I can suggest you some simple ways to get rid off these bugs:
  1. The food bugs generally are found flying around the waste food. You must throw away the waste food almost everyday and clean the place where you keep the trash bin regularly.
  2. I would suggest clean your kitchen or food storage areas with some detergents dry them well and store the food.
  3. For storage of food use the vacuum packing, so that the bugs cannot damage the food.
  4. Use some astringents or insects spray to kill these bugs almost on daily basis until the climate is changed.
  5. Wash the utensils regularly and don't pile up your utensils in the sink. Use hot water to clean the utensils.
These are basic five steps which will really help you kill these bugs or at least reduce them.
Keep your beds clean and spray the insect killer in the bed room before sleeping or use the mosquito repellent.
In the market you can find several products to kills the bugs, I suggest you must keep it handy.
Keep environment and  home clean always which keeps your family healthy and happy.

Indian Restaurants in Changwon city, South Korea

I love to try new food, so as recommended by my friends we drove to  Changwan city. I have heard there are many Indian engineers in changwan city in many companies like Doosan, LG, samsung etc. Hence there is an Indian Restaurant named Bombay which is very popular.
Till now I just loved the food from Delhi Restaurant which is located in Okpo.
So in order to go for a long drive we chose to have lunch in the Indian Restaurant named Bombay.
Actually the names of the restaurant are derived from  the list of  Big Cities of India named Delhi(being the capital of India and Bombay (now called Mumbai), which is famous for Indian cinema, Bollywood.
The Delhi restaurant is among the top restaurants of Geoje and offers are very authentic Indian food.
But once I drove to Changwan city for the Indian food in Mumbai that was just amazing. It was much more like a home food which I enjoyed alot. The food had no color content. The resturant is really huge and service is very good.
We ordered the starters named Samosa, indian mandu with Khamja.

The lunch set of Bombay restaurant is around 15,000 to 17,000 Won depending on the Lunch set 1, 2, and 3. The set offers several choices of drinks which include the salad a curry, naan, Barbecue chicken, curd, rice and fried rice.

The food had a lot of quantity and really made us full.
The food was very delicious and I might rate the restaurant very high.
The driving from Geoje might take 1hour 30mins but I think its worth it coz the food is really awesome.
And to my surprise I was shocked to see there are two more restaurants next to bombay restaurant named Punjab and Taj mahal which are also Indian restaurant. So I feel the competition is high hence quality and quantity of the food is perfect.

Street market or farmers market in South Korea

Thank you for your comments and liking my blog. Well! today I will share my experience about the street market or farmers market in South Korea. Previously, I wrote about the grocery marts in South Korea which are located in each locality.

Generally the street markets are located in the market where the farmers bring the freash vegetables, fruits, kimchi, special snacks, some cheap clohes. The street markets are very popular among korean housewives. They buy the vegetables, fruits, sea-food, fish, kimchi etc from these street market.

The farmers market offer good price, quality and quantity. Best part is the korean old ladies sell products on a cheap rate, if required you can even bargain the price. The old ladies selling the vegetables keep cleaning or washing the vegetables well.

Otherwise in a big street market you can find products other than food like clothes, general daily stuff, pans, utensils, decoration items, CDs, DVDs old oncs etc.

But i might recommend you to buy fresh vegetables from the Korean street market and sometimes you can experience the street food like Thikim(fried food), dakpokki etc. You can even buy the rice cake from there which is home made by ajumas.

Do have an experience of it!

Koreans are born with good manners, patience, hard working attitude, and intense love for their mother land.Tan-gun was the founder of Korea. His father was considered a heavily diety who had shown his interest to live on earth. The philosophy about Korean are endless but I am here to share about the top 10 facts of Korean history:

5 Astonishing facts about Religion in South Korea

Before I came to South Korea I always thought that China, Japan and Korea are following the Buddhist Religion. When I started living here I found some astonishing facts about South Korea religion and their beliefs.
If you see the figures about the Koreans following Buddhism are only 22% of the whole poulation. Though there are many beautiful budha temple in South Korea. Second in the figures is Christianity, in which around 18% are protentant christians and only 10.8% are Catholics. Also there are many Church in South Korea. I have also attended few prayers there.
3. The highest in figure are people with no religion is South Korea which caters to almost 46.5% of the Korean population, i.e almost half of the population.

4. So there is a very clear distinction between the people who have no belief's in their life. I have also seen people who are Buddhist or Christians but do not have the right knowldege to practice it or havent been to Church or temple even once in their life.

5. Sometimes you might meet people in Korean whose mom is buddhist and Her son is Christian or any kind of multi-religion families. Its astonishing but true at times I think there is no such strong faith about heavenly dieties in South Korea.

Hence they confirm that they have no religion. Buddhism in Korea came from the influence of China whereas Christianity was propogated by American missionaries in South Korea. But these days trends are being changed as I can see some buddhist monks and Christian missionary making an effor to propogate the religions on the streets of South Korea.

Chinese food in South Korea

I have travelled to many countries and always liked the Chinese food and Indian food. Though basic Indian food is generally the same and authentic, but I have also found out that Chinese food is absolutely different in different countries. The Chinese food I ate in Germany was not available in USA or the Chinese food I ate in Hong Kong, Japan or South Korea was different. Even I travelled to China there were 100's of dishes in each restuarant, which were different from the chinese food served in Europe or anywhere. Even South Korea and China are very near but the chinese food is different. Its surprising! In Korea the Chinese food comprimises of : 1. Black soya noodles, jjajangmyeon; 자장면; 짜장면, are made up of pork and sea food. Its very popular in South Korea. It consists of wheat noodles topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced meat and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. Jajang (alternately spelled jjajang), Initially I was little hestitant in eating it but once I ate it I just loved it from that time.
2. Chang-pong is the spicy sea-food noodles which are made by special red color sause.Champong is a popular noodle dish that is prepared in a red, spicy seafood broth containing hearty vegetables and variety of seafood. This dish presumably has its origins in Japan with influence from China and is known to be very popular at various restaurant.
3. Bokumpbap which is the fried rice with different combinations. My favourite is prawn Bokumbap.
4. Thang-suyu i.e is the fried pork which is served with sweet and sour sause. The sause is specially prepered by fruits like pineapple. These are the main dishes in the Chinese restaurant also. There serve seven course meals for the party which inlcudes fried pork, fried chicken, fried shrimps, whale soup etc.
So I recommend to try the Chinese food in South Korea.

The samgyeopsaal is generally eaten in parties and with a group of people, enjoy it with soju and beer. Soju is a kind of Korean alcohol.
The pork belly is cut in large sizes of thick strips, grilled which gets soften and almost melts in your mouth.
The grilled meat is generally eaten with lot of salad in Korea.

The grilled meat is rolled in a leaf with kimchi, grilled garlic or you choose your wraps and enjoy it.

After finishing the grilled pork, generally the meal is ordered some soup with rice or cold noodles.

There are several rooms inside the norebang where a group can occupy one room. Each room is equipped with Karoke list of book, sound system, audio, video and dancing lights.

Karaoke with dancing lights
They serve beer, or any drinks with the snacks. The average price of Norebang is 15,000 won. The Karaoke book list includes Korean songs, Japanese songs and English songs. I had the chance to visit the norebang a couple of times with my Korean friends. Some are really good singers. Generally, Koreans are very quiet but in norebang you can see the hidden talent of many as they emerge as pop-stars. There are wide screen in the room where the songs are displayed with Karaoke text.
